Navy Captain Kürsat Kurnaz was born in Kayseri, Türkiye, in 1977. He graduated from the Naval High School in 1994 and from the Turkish Naval Academy in 1998 as Ensign.

Captain Kurnaz served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer onboard Mine Sweepers and Mine Hunters from 1998 to 2012. He was assigned as the Commander Officer of TCG Erdek between 2012-2013 and then of TCG Ayvalik between 2013-2015.

His shore duties include Maritime Training Officer in the Turkish General Staff 2015-2016, Director of the Turkish Navy HQ Maritime Operation Center (MOC) 2016-2019 and Head of the Current Operations Department 2021-2024. He also served as the Maritime Intelligence Analyst of NATO Joint Force Command (JFC) Naples between 2019-2021. 

Captain Kurnaz is married to Gërkem and has a son named Pars.
