The latest successful Operation Sea Guardian Focused Operation FOCOPS 20-5 covered the Central Mediterranean with surface combatants and air assets in associated support during period 02-22 August 2020.  Croatian navy vessel HRV ‘Dubrovnik’ led by Lieutenant Commander Marinko Majić left the Port of Split 03 September as the flagship to the fifth focused patrol of NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian (OSG) in 2020.

The Focused Patrol was provided by the Croatian fast patrol boat HRV Dubrovnik as Flagship to NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian (OSG). Additionally, the Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) Spanish frigate ESPS Alvaro De Bazan ADBZ was supporting to this Focused Patrol. 

Maritime Patrol Aircrafts (MPA) and Airborne Early Warning units from Greece, Italy, Spain and Turkey including the NATO-owned AWACS aircraft are also contributing to the focused patrol with associated air support.

One of the main efforts for this patrol was gathering pattern of life information about the main sea lines of communication in international waters as well as the main transiting point in the Central Mediterranean

Operation Sea Guardian is a non-Article 5 maritime security operation of NATO aimed at working with Mediterranean stakeholders to maintain maritime situational awareness, deter and counter terrorism and enhance capacity building. One of the main efforts for this patrol is gathering pattern of life information about the shipping routes in international waters.
