"Just as everyone thought, we would finally go back to normal, having overcome a worldwide pandemic, the unprovoked attack of Russia on Ukraine changed fundamentally the international world order and showed us the necessity and the importance of capable and quickly deployable forces," said Morang.

"18 ships from several Allied nations have worked under SNMCMG2 during my command and we built strong ties while we are contributing Alliance security" said Nunez de Prado.

Nunez de Prado took command in June 2021 and commanded the force on board the flagship ESPS Meteoro for a year.

Captain Yusuf Karagulle participated the ceremony via video conference. "I would like to pass my congratulations to Captain Javier Nunez de Prado for his monumentally successful tour. I am honored and feel privileged to have the opportunity of commanding SNMCMG2 for the second time. I'm looking forward to work together with highly trained and skilled members of MCM community from different Allies to contribute Alliance's security", said Karagulle. Karagulle will now command the group on board the flagship TCG Yuzbası Gungor Durmus until the end of this year. Ships from Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Türkiye will sail with the group during this period.

Together with being the mine countermeasure specific force of NATO, SNMCMG2 is one of four task groups that comprise the maritime component of the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), which is part of the NATO Response Force (NRF).
