“The assets provided by the Hellenic Navy and Air Force were outstanding and fully supported a series of demanding exercise with our allies, strengthening our interoperability in complex multi-threat scenarios and reinforced our NATO comradeship,” said Spanish Navy Rear Admiral Manuel Aguirre Aldereguia, commander SNMG2.
Previously to the exercise, SNMG2 visited Souda Naval Base (Greece), where there was a handover of Flagship duties from ESPS “Alvaro de Bazan” to ESPS “Cristobal Colón”.
SNMG2 is one of the two standing groups that conform the core of the high readiness element of the NATO Response Force. SNMG2 main task unit is currently composed of Spanish frigate ESPS Cristobal Colon, Bulgarian frigate BGS Smeli and a replenishment ship from the Spanish navy, ESPS Patino.
