“It’s a real pleasure and honour for me to join the famous MARCOM HQ, which is at the very top of all maritime forces of NATO nations”, said the new Deputy Commander.
“In our headquarters, in the different maritime headquarters of our nations, aboard all ships, submarines and aircrafts, our strength relies on the women and men fully dedicated to their missions, whatever the circumstances,” added the Vice Admiral.
In his latest appointment before MARCOM, he was acting as deputy to the Chief of Staff/Operations at the French Joint Staff in Paris since September 2018, being promoted to Rear-Admiral (UH) in 2019. In this assignment, from March to May 2020, he supervised the COVID 19 ministerial crisis cell from the Joint Staff, in coordination with the Cabinet Office of Ministers. His promotion to Vice Admiral came in June 2020, just before starting as the Deputy Commander of MARCOM.
He holds various decorations and awards, including Knighthood of the Legion of Honour, Commander of the National Merit, the Military Valour Cross, the Overseas Medal (Middle East and Somalia clasps), and the Naval Aeronautic Medal.
A family man, Vice-Admiral Piaton and his wife Dominique have raised five children. They both enjoy family gatherings, as well as practicing sea and mountain sports.
Vice Admiral Piaton will hold the post for 3 years, based in Northwood, UK.
