Chairman of NATO Military Committee visits MARCOM

NORTHWOOD, United Kingdom - Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee (MC) visited NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) on 20 July 2020. He was greeted and briefed by MARCOM Commander Vice Admiral Keith Blount on current and future NATO maritime operations.

“It was an honour to receive Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach at MARCOM. In these uncertain times, it is now more critical than ever to maintain close coordination across NATO and its different military domains. Planning and close cooperation is the cornerstone of Alliance’s ability to ensure it remains ready and prepared for any challenges ahead," said the Commander of NATO's Allied Maritime Command.

The Military Committee is the primary source of consensus-based advice to the North Atlantic Council and the Nuclear Planning Group on military policy and strategy, and it provides guidance to the two Strategic Commanders – Supreme Allied Commander Europe and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. As such, it is an essential link between the political decision-making process and the military structure of NATO.

The Military Committee is responsible for translating political decision and guidance into military direction, and for recommending measures considered necessary for the defence of the NATO area and the implementation of decisions regarding military operations.
