NATO’s advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare Exercise Dynamic Mongoose concludes

Norway – NATO’s Submarine Warfare Exercise DYNAMIC MONGOOSE 2018 concluded on July 06, with ships, submarines, aircraft and personnel from 8 Allied nations converging on the North Atlantic Ocean for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface warfare training. Host nation Norway provided support from the Harstad and Narvik Harbors as well as Andoya Air Base.

2 submarines, 7 surface ships, 3 maritime patrol aircrafts from Denmark, German, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey and the United States participated in the exercise. Submarines under operational control of NATO Submarine Command (COMSUBNATO) joined surface ships under Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and maritime patrol aircraft under NATO Maritime Air Command in a simulated multi-threat environment.

The aim of this exercise was to provide all participants with complex and challenging warfare training to enhance their interoperability and proficiency in anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare skills. Furthermore the exercise provided opportunity to identify best practices and lessons learned.

Dynamic Mongoose is one of a series of exercises in which NATO trains and practices ASW skills under various circumstances and geographic conditions. Dynamic Mongoose is set in the deep, cold waters of the North Atlantic and is designed to specifically train for ASW work in this type of environment.  It is part of the NATO effort on continued adaptation to new security challenges and helps to develop understanding of the North Atlantic.
