Commander of NATO Joint Forces Command Brunssum Visits NATO Maritime Command
NORTHWOOD, United Kingdom - The Commander of NATO Joint Forces Command Brunssum (JFC Brunssum), General Riccardo Marchiò of the Italian Army, visited NATO Maritime Command (MARCOM) Headquarters in northern London today for a discussion on maritime power.
While visiting MARCOM, General Marchiò met with MARCOM Commander, Vice Admiral Clive Johnstone of the Royal Navy as well as other members of the command group and directorate heads.
As NATO’s theatre-wide operational maritime command, MARCOM works closely with joint commands like JFC Brunssum to deliver maritime power in support of joint campaigns, integrating the activities of ships, submarines and maritime aircraft with the activities of land-based air and ground forces to provide NATO with capabilities across all warfighting domains in defence of Allied nations.
"It is a pleasure to host General Marchiò here at MARCOM HQ and work together to ensure his Joint Command can take full advantage of what the maritime has to offer,” said Vice Admiral Johnstone. "We are all here for the same purpose, defence of Allied nations. To ensure our best effort, coordination and cooperation across the joint spectrum is an imperative.”
At the Brussels Summit in the summer of 2018, MARCOM was elevated to a Theatre Component Command, increasing in size by 50 percent providing the command with tangible resources to support its resilience, capacity and capability. MARCOM also serves as commander of maritime forces as allocated, as the principal NATO Maritime advisor to NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe and the Maritime Advocate for NATO.
