Standing NATO Maritime Group One Visits Trondheim

TRONDHEIM, Norway: Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) made a visit to Trondheim after concluding exercises in the North Atlantic off the coast of Norway.

The force led and participated in two multinational exercises over the past two weeks, with more than 12 ships from several countries.

SNMG1 participated in the annual air defence and electronic warfare exercise Dynamic Guard, an Allied Maritime Command led exercise hosted by the Royal Norweigan Navy. The group then participated in the Norwegian fleet`s annual exercise TG 17-1 after Dynamic Guard concluded. Exercise TG 17-1 supports the training and qualification of new submarine commanders, in addition to focusing on improving warfare capabilities under challenging conditions.

"Through training and exercises we improve our military capabilities and reduce our reaction time to any potential threats. Working together with close Allies in a challenging environment strengthens our co-operation and collective defense,” said Commander of SNMG1, Commodore Ole Morten Sandquist.

Led by Norwegian Commodore Ole Morten Sandquist, SNMG1 currently consists of the Norwegian frigate and flagship HNoMS Roald Amundsen, Belgian frigate BNS Louise-Marie and German tanker FGS Spessart.

During the port visit SNMG1 leadership met with local authorities. The port visit was also a great opportunity for the SNMG1 sailors to get acquainted on their Allied counterparts in Trondheim.
