SNMG1 Greets Chinese Task Group in North Sea

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 flagship HNoMS Otto Sverdrup greeted a Chinese Naval Task Group in the North Sea while sailing there in international waters.

NATO ships have previously worked with Chinese task groups while in the Gulf of Aden while conducting counter-piracy patrols. The last visit of Chinese ships to the North Sea and Baltic area was in October 2015.

The SNMG1 flagship is underway conducting a Maritime Situational Awareness patrol in the North and Baltic Seas. Maritime Situational Awareness patrols like this one support Allied Maritime Command’s continual awareness of what is happening at sea in the international waters around Allied nations.
