Allied Maritime Command names Staff Member of the Year
NORTHWOOD, United Kingdom – On Jan. 12, 2017, Warrant Officer Philippe Klaw of the French Navy was named Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) Staff Member of the Year for his exceptional performance during 2016.
While it takes a team of great staff members to conduct operations as MARCOM, each year, one individual is recognized for his or her exceptional leadership, professional experience and significant contributions to the command.
Klaw is the NATO Recognized Maritime Picture (RMP) Manager at MARCOM. In his duties, he's demonstrated maturity, professionalism and skill in managing a team of dedicated professionals who maintain Maritime Situational Awareness of the sea lanes and littoral areas around Allied nations.
Additionally, Klaw is the chairman of a multinational group which gathers together all the RMP managers across NATO. His work at MARCOM and across the Alliance is critical to maintaining a strong defence of Allied nations.
Klaw also provided strong support to the French National Element at MARCOM, serving as National Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the French NATO community.
During an award presentation, Commander, Allied Maritime Command, Vice Admiral Clive Johnstone, noted Warrant Officer Klaw's tireless devotion to duty and his essential role in the operationalization of the headquarters.
Philippe Klaw joined the French Navy after graduation from high school and began his career as a navy signalman/navigator at Brest, Brittany in November 2001.
Having completed six months of basic training at the Naval School, he was assigned as a Seaman and worked his way through the ranks serving on a variety of different ships.
In 2015, he took the opportunity to go back to his roots in the UK, as his parents are from West London, and joined the NATO Allied Maritime Command Northwood.
