SNMG2 Units Arrive in Copenhagen

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) ships arrived in Copenhagen this weekend after completing the anti-submarine warfare exercise Dynamic Mongoose 2015.

Led by Rear Adm. Brad Williamson (USA N), SNMG2 is currently comprised of the flagship USS Vicksburg (CG 69), HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337), TCG Goksu (F 497), FGS Spessart (A 1442), and HNLMS Tromp (F 803).

Dynamic Mongoose provided assets from 10 NATO Allied and 1 partner nations with the opportunity to enhance interoperability and proficiency in anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare skills. The surface units practiced anti-submarine warfare tactics in close coordination with the rotary and fixed-wing assets participating in the exercise

"This exercise was a great opportunity for our Sailors to exercise their skills in a complex series of events in a challenging environment,” said Williamson. "Environmental conditions forced us to adapt our tactics and techniques to best suit the situation. Being able to practice in the environment off of Norway honed our skills and we are now certainly more ready to respond to subsurface threats in any environment.”

During the port visit, SNMG2 leadership will meet with local civic authorities to discuss matters of shared importance. SNMG2 Sailors will have the opportunity to participate in social events with their Allied counterparts as well as explore the area and take in the rich history and culture of Denmark.
