NATO MARCOM Hosts Deputy Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples

NORTHWOOD, UK – Today, the Deputy Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC NAPLES), Lieutenant-General Michael Day, OMM, MSC, CD, visited NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), meeting with the MARCOM Command Group to discuss coordination of operational activities and areas of common interest.

Lieutenant-General Day was briefed on MARCOM current operations, with emphasis on the Mediterranean Sea. The official party had the opportunity to visit MARCOM’s Operations Center and the NATO Shipping Centre (NCS), observing its main activities.

With MARCOM’s full operational capability (FOC) certification exercise TRIDENT JEWEL 15 less than two months away, the MARCOM Command Group was particularly interested in Lieutenant General Day's insights and lessons derived from JFC Naples' Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE14, which took place in November.

"The visit of Lieutenant General Day was particularly timely and a good opportunity to both introduce our headquarters and objectives, and align our views with the studies in progress within the Alliance,” said Vice Admiral Paulmier, MARCOM Deputy Commander.

Lieutenant General Day was appointed the Deputy Commander for Joint Forces Command Naples in July 2014. His infantry career has included operational deployments to the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans and Afghanistan. He commanded the Canadian Battle Group to the Balkans, the Command of Joint Task Force Two, the Command of Canada’s Special Operations Forces, and was Deputy Commanding General of the NATO Training Mission (NTM) in Afghanistan.
