London Embassy Ambassadors Visit MARCOM

NORTHWOOD, UK – Today, NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) hosted Ambassadors, Chargé d’affaires, Deputy Chiefs of Mission, Defence and Naval Attachés representing 26 Allied London embassies for an overview of MARCOM’s role in the NATO command structure and the challenges facing the Alliance in 2015.  This was MARCOM’s first NATO Day for the London Allied diplomatic Community.

During the visit, MARCOM’s Commander, Vice Admiral Peter Hudson CB CBE, updated the visitors on MARCOM support to NATO's Readiness Action Plan and the revival of NATO's maritime posture.  The visitors also toured the Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) for a brief on current operations.  They also had the chance to meet and speak with General Philip Breedlove, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, during their visit.

"MARCOM is the only major NATO operational headquarters in the United Kingdom,” said Vice Admiral Hudson. "Yet we are not as well known in the diplomatic neighbourhoods as arguably we ought to be.  I am working to change that.  The maritime environment is returning to the centre of NATO’s thinking as we seek to leverage influence, to assure partners, to sustain joint contingency and deal with contemporary threats.”
