This page will contain the most updated information and guidelines on COVID-19, released by the Command Group of the Allied Maritime Command to all of its international staff serving at MARCOM and extended to their families.
Allied Maritime Command will continue to guarantee its responsibilities towards Standing Naval Forces and operation Sea Guardian. Mitigation measures against COVID-19 are implemented in a sensible manner to keep our personnel, our units and our crews safe. It will include guidelines and security procedures to be observed at the Headquarters.
All SNRs have to ensure that all newcomers of Own Country, before starting their In-processing procedures:
a. have to stay in self isolation on arrival to the UK for a period of 14 days.
b. must be well informed about COVID-19 preventive measures in force in MARCOM .
The Government has a carefully planned timetable for lifting restrictions, with dates that should help people to plan. This timetable depends on successfully controlling the spread of the virus; if the evidence shows sufficient progress is not being made in controlling the virus then the lifting of restrictions may have to be delayed.
COVID-19 testing can identify the SARS-CoV-2 virus and includes methods that a) detect the presence of virus itself and b) those that detect antibodies produced in response to infection.
Now Military personnel, or their household, from other nations (NATO personnel included) who are serving in the UK are now eligible for the COVID-19 test, just like the UK military. The people can book for the test (which detect the presence of virus in respiratory system), using website “https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested”; have an appointment in 24h and the test result between 2-5 days.
The people having a positive test to the COVID19 infection can spread virus.
For people sick or having household sick, it is very important to do a test, firstly to detect in early phase COVID 19 infection and consequently implement Self Isolation measures (positive cases) but also treat appropriately the others (negative cases).
For people returning from abroad or having Households returning from abroad, the test is not able to reduce quarantine of 14 days because this period is only related to the potential incubation (time before the virus could produce infection). The test in these cases could be useful only at the end of 14 days of Self Isolation.
Comply with the new rules in force since May 13, in particular:
STAY ALERT - IF YOU FEEL SICK, STAY AT HOME - BOOK A TEST
IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE to leave the house FOR SHOPPING FOR BASIC NECESSITIES, FOR EXAMPLE FOOD AND MEDICINE.
In actual phase, PUBLIC GARDENS AND PARKS ARE OPEN TO LET PEOPLE SPEND TIME OUTDOORS AND EXERCISE OUTSIDE AS MANY TIMES EACH DAY AS THEY WISH (not meeting up with any more than one person from outside your household and continue to comply with 2mt social distancing rules).
In the first step (until June 1 2020) people MAY DRIVE TO OUTDOOR OPEN SPACES IRRESPECTIVE OF DISTANCE ( it is allowed to go to Oxford but for example not to Edinburg where the Scottish Rules are in force).
It is strong recommended EXERCISE (also to go TO WORK CYCLING OR WALKING) to improve the mood and keep the people healthy and fit to fight the virus.
Due to the increased mobility it is now advising that people should aim to wear a FACE-COVERING in ENCLOSED SPACES (CROWED AREA) where social distancing is not always possible, for example on PUBLIC TRANSPORT OR IN SOME SHOPS.
DO NOT TRAVEL VIA PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION (including Taxi) BETWEEN HOME AND MARCOM
