Ms Eleanor Haevens

Ms. Eleanor Haevens grew up in Canada’s Artic (North West Territories) and in British Columbia. She served 25 years as an Army Logistics Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces. Highlights of her military career include 3 operational missions supporting NATO in the Balkans and Afghanistan, 2 tours as Commanding Officer of Logistics Support Units and appointment as Financial Controller. While serving, Eleanor was recognized for her contributions to Women in Defence and maintains a keen interest in the Women in Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. She retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in late 2019, after a posting at Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) Finance Directorate/J8 and became the Allied Command Operations (ACO) Senior Accountant at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). In December 2022, she was appointed as Director of Finance at Maritime Command.

Eleanor’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, a MBA, a Masters of Defence Studies and she is a graduate of the Canadian Armed Forces Command and Staff College (Joint Command and Staff Program). She is also a Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario- Canada). A former CISM cross-country runner, she still enjoys running whenever she can. Eleanor is married to Hazen Harty, and together they have a daughter Emily.
